Needed: Summer Blood Donors before July 4th holiday
Traditional images of backyard barbecues, family gatherings
and numerous recreational activities are seen across the state
during this time of year. Sadly, so are blood shortages.
The Blood Bank of Alaska is struggling to keep up
with the blood needs over the past few weeks due to low donations
and extensive usage. Local inventory levels have dropped well
below a safe and adequate supply on a number of blood types.
Please call 907-222-5630 to schedule your appointment or visit
your nearest blood center
or mobile blood drive as soon possible. Appointments preferred.
Walk-ins welcome as time permits.

Champions for Charity
At the presentation ceremony held on Saturday, June 9th, David
Large, Director of Public Relations for the Blood Bank of
Alaska was honored to receive a check in the amount of $1500.
"The Blood Bank of Alaska would like to thank the Alaska
Rush Soccer club and Tournament organizers for continuing
to include us in their fundraising efforts – we are
truly honored to participate in the event that bears Ina Kristiansen’s
name."
Ina Kristiansen, an outstanding young woman who had an immense
love of soccer and life, died in 1992 at the age of 22. Each
year since, the Goldstrykers soccer team, for which she played,
has sponsored a Tournament in her memory, honoring her life
and her spirited battled against leukemia. In addition, the
Ina K. Tournament raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society, the American Cancer Society, and the Blood Bank of
Alaska, and provides scholarships through the Alaska Goldstrikers
Soccer Club Scholarship Fund.

Attention Blood Donors
There is a new Uniform Donor History Questionnaire (UDHQ)
being implemented at all Blood Bank of Alaska centers and
mobile blood drives as required by the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA). We ask that you please be patient as the donation process
may take slightly longer than usual until Blood Donors and
BBA Staff become accustomed to the new process. FDA
regulations also require that ALL donors must now
have either State or
Federal PHOTO I.D. (listing date of birth)
at time of registration in order to donate blood - no
exceptions. We sincerely appreciate your patience and
understanding. Thank you.
For more information or questions in regards to FDA regulations,
please visit their website at www.fda.gov
