Alaska High School Challenge Update
In the Class I category, the heat is on as the Military Youth
Academy leads the way with 79 presenting blood donors, just
ahead of last year's champion Houston High School at 66 blood
donors! In the Class II category, North Pole H.S. sits comfortably
at first place with 75 donors and in Class III, Juneau Douglas
H.S. sits at 49 presenting blood donors! Next week will be
very interesting as Class III 2005/06 champion Bartlett H.S.
hosts their first drive of the year with last year's champion
South H.S. the very next day!

Mobile Blood Drives
Is there a
blood
drive in your neighborhood? The Blood Bank of Alaska tries
to make it as convenient as possible for local residents to
give the "gift of life." Upwards of 40 mobile blood
drives are hosted by local businesses, organizations, civic
groups, churches, and schools each month. Without their generous
support, Alaska's blood supply would be in jeopardy. For more

Combined Federal Campaign
The Blood Bank of Alaska is part of the Combined Federal Employees
Campaign for 2007. The CFC is an organized program through
which federal employees can give to charitable organizations.
Federal employees are those individuals in the military, civilian
federal agency, and US Postal Service. The Blood Bank of Alaska
is eligible to receive contribution with the new
Five-Digit
Code - 31150.

Blood Bank of Alaska Returns to Juneau
Juneau residents - please make time to roll up your sleeves
and save a life! The Blood Bank of Alaska, with the assistance
of the Juneau Federal Building, Juneau Douglas High School,
the University of Alaska Southeast, and Alaska Electric Light
and Power are conducting a four day blood drive in Juneau
October 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th - giving local residents
a convenient way to save lives in Alaska!

Give 4 times this year & become a 2008 HERO
donor
Have you given blood at least 4 times this year? Four times
in 2007 is all it takes to become a member of the
2008
HERO Program! It's easy to do and you'll become a member
of an exclusive club in which you'll be eligible for bi-weekly
drawings, prizes, and receive HERO points to redeem for exclusive
HERO merchandise! October is already here and you'll need
a minimum of 4 donations to be eligible for the 2008 HERO
program. Here's how:
• Donate
Whole Blood 4 times
(56 days in between donations)
• Become an
ALYX donor and
give double reds 2 times (112 days in between donations)
• Become a
TRIMA donor and give platelets
4 times (as often as 2 times per week up to 24 times per year)
This coming January, all 2008 HERO Program members will be
notified by mail. Included, will be a special gift! Don't

Solid Waste Services & Anchorage Waste Blood
Drive Challenge
What do two local trash companies have in common besides wading
day in and day out in disposed waste? For one thing, a heated
rivalry that's been building all summer to determine who will
be champions of a blood donation challenge, with the winners
walking away with a Stanley Cup - style trophy and a year's
worth of bragging rights!
