The “Ride for Life” 2010 Promotional Campaign

How does it work?

As each biker enters a Blood Bank location (center or blood drive) they are required to show some form of proper identification. If they show their Alaska State drivers license (most do) their will be a “motorcycle class designation” on their drivers license. This will be in the form of a CLASS M1 classification. The M1 designation ensures the donors eligibility towards a motorcycle “Patch” and chevron (year signification). The patch / chevron will be made available through the Blood Bank of Alaska.

Register to donate blood:
Receive Exclusive Ride for Life Patch and RED 2010 chevron.

Make a $25 contribution in support of the BBA Capital Campaign:

Receive Exclusive Ride-for-Life Patch and BLACK 2010 chevron.

At any time during the donation process (at the donor’s discretion) they will be required to fill out a specialized “biker” voucher. After each voucher is filled out it is to be placed in the wooden box (centers) or at a predetermined location (Lifemobiles). The voucher will then be picked up by a member of the Marketing department.

Once the donor (biker) has earned his patch / chevron it will be mailed to the individual’s home address by the BBA Marketing department.

The vouchers will serve the following purposes:

1. Serve as an order form for ordering a one of a kind “Ride for Life” patch and chevron (denoting the year earned).

2. Act as an informational tool to educate the potential donors about the Blood Bank of Alaska, locations, the donation process, etc…

3. Give the Blood Bank of Alaska important marketing information about how many individuals are donating from what organization or group.

4. Give donors an opportunity to win prizes (random drawings using the vouchers).

These specialized “biker” vouchers will be available at all Blood Bank locations as well as a few existing businesses (House of Harley, etc…).

Questions:

Can an individual who is not a biker, or for other reasons cannot donate blood, purchase a patch / chevron?

Yes. This is to be done through PayPal only. Donors can go to the Blood Bank web site, click on the designated button, and purchase the patch ($25.00). The fee will be used to support of the capital campaign. This is a similar process to those individuals who wish to donate money to the Blood Bank of Alaska. At no time should there be any physical exchange of money / checks etc….

Can an individual who registers to donate blood but for some reason is deferred receive a patch?

Yes. FDA guidelines state that any incentive must be given to all individuals upon Registration and not just successful donations.

Why:

This campaign was designed to increase donor traffic to all Blood Bank centers within the Anchorage and Fairbanks communities as well as all scheduled mobile drive sites (including Kodiak) within the designated three week period.
