Are there things we should know about – trends, misconceptions,
or ideas that we’ve missed? We will be relying on you to
make these observations and report back to us things you see and
hear which will help let us know how we are doing.
Get out your pens! Volunteers may occasionally be asked to complete
surveys so we can collect data about how we are doing.

You can help spread the word among your friends and coworkers when
we encounter emergency shortages. If you have access to email
lists, can put up brochures or fliers on your office bulletin
board, or can just spread the word among your friends, you can
save lives.
We will keep you updated on pertinent issues
so that you can be well-informed and able to answer questions and
educate others about
the safety and importance of donating blood.

During busy events, we will need volunteers to lend us their smiling
faces for a few hours, greeting and directing our donors when they
arrive.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Bloodmobile Greeter
Our greeters' warm smiles and reassuring nature make the all-important
first impression on donors at Blood Bank of Alaska centers and mobile
blood drives throughout the community. Greeters assist donors in
filling out the donor history questionnaire, provide an overview
about the Donor for Life Program and HERO Program, maintain order
of appointment arrivals and answer general questions. Donor Greeters
are essential to the success of our drives and overall donation
experience. They are in much demand. Greeter shifts last three to
five hours and are occasionally outdoors, in various areas of Anchorage,
Eagle River, Fairbanks, Mat-Su Valley, and the Kenai Peninsula.
Canteen Host
Canteen hosts play a pivotal role in our donor center canteens by
connecting with our donors, engaging them in conversation about
our Donor for Life Program and HERO Program, serving refreshments
and monitoring donors for reactions. Canteen hosts are friendly,
outgoing and personable. If this describes you, then being a canteen
host is your ticket to saving lives! Canteen shifts last two to
four hours. Hosts can choose to work at blood centers and mobile
drives.
Mascot
If you enjoy having fun and getting into character, then sign up
to be either Buddy the Blood Drop or the Bloodhound Dog! Whenever
either of these two mascots show up at a mobile blood drive or at
a special event, the donation experience is greatly enhanced! Hours
and locations vary.
Ambassador Speaker
Blood Bank of Alaska Ambassadors are highly trained volunteers who
share our mission by speaking at various community meetings, churches,
schools and companies. Ambassadors approach these groups and set-up
these speaking engagements independently. Hours and locations vary.
Health Fair Representatives
Health fair volunteers oversee information tables at various companies,
campuses and organizations throughout Anchorage, Eagle River, Fairbanks,
Mat-Su Valley, and the Kenai Peninsula. They are trained to answer
general questions about blood donation, apheresis donation, and
the National Bone Marrow Registry. Hours and locations vary.
