My Blood, Your Blood is an exciting multi-media science education program created by a national team of scientists, physicians and educators. This program is endorsed by the Surgeon General of the United States and by hundreds of educators nationwide!

The My Blood, Your Blood program teaches Kindergarten through 12th grade students about the human circulatory system in a fun and interactive way. My Blood, Your Blood will help educate students about blood and how it’s used in the body. The lesson package includes:

  • video for elementary level instruction
  • teacher’s guide with lesson plans and classroom-ready handouts
  • vivid wall poster featuring highlights from the video
  • guest speakers from the Blood Bank of Alaska
  • field trip opportunity to tour the Blood Bank of Alaska and watch the blood donation process
  • blood drive opportunity for your school with all marketing materials included

The My Blood, Your Blood program teaches students the function and importance of blood. We also hope that by educating today’s young students, the blood donors of the future, we can educate their parents as well. Today’s blood supply and that of tomorrow depends on this type of innovative education to help end blood shortages.

To emphasize that point, we offer My Blood, Your Blood as part of our outreach program to area schools. The materials would be a great addition to lesson plans on health, biology, or the circulatory system. The My Blood, Your Blood program is also a great way to kick off a blood drive campaign hosted by your school!

Tours
Blood Bank of Alaska conducts tours at their main Anchorage facility at 4000 Laurel Street upon request. During the tour, a group follows a donor through the entire donation process. Tours usually last around one hour and are best if scheduled from 10:00am to 1:00pm Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. Please let us know how many students will be in the tour and if any of the chaperones plan to donate blood during the tour. (Please note - if you are with the Anchorage School District please send in a community resource request form through inter-school mail to the Community Resource department).
