For more than 60 years, Blood Bank of Alaska has been at the forefront of Alaska healthcare ensuring that our medical facilities all over the state have a safe and adequate blood supply. Blood Bank of Alaska sees approximately 2,000 volunteer blood donors each month across Alaska in order to supply blood in case of accidents, trauma, heart surgery and treatment of diseases such as cancer. Blood Bank of Alaska collected 682 units the first year of operation. We now collect over 20,000 units a year and ship those units thousands of miles from Barrow to Juneau.
Our founding members were the catalyst in developing a long relationship with our thousands of blood donors. With a small team of committed medical specialist Blood Bank of Alaska opened its doors to help Alaska patients in need.
