Board Chair, Ian Van Tets, completed his 100th donation last week. He began donating blood in the nineties and has donated in Alaska since moving here in 2002. He fits blood donation into his busy schedule as an Associate Professor with the University of Alaska, teaching physiology for both UAA’s Department of Biological Sciences and the local Medical School, Alaska WWAMI. He is also an attorney with a small sole-practitioner law firm, Van Tets Legal Services. He donated with his daughter who is also a dedicated blood donor, saving lives is a family affair.
In addition, Dr. Van Tets has served two terms as the Board Chair for Blood Bank of Alaska. The board is comprised of fourteen volunteers from the community that help ensure hospital patients have blood in their time of need.
“Dr. Van Tets is a wonderful example of those that understand how important donating blood is for Alaskans. It takes time and commitment, we are proud to have him as a part of the board of directors,” Robert Scanlon, CEO, Blood Bank of Alaska.
