WHEREAS, a constant, safe, pure and potent supply of blood is necessary for communities to meet the needs of their immediate area; and
WHEREAS, blood must be readily available in the event of a medical
crisis, trauma, man-made or natural disaster; and
WHEREAS, eligible blood donors can have a significant lifesaving
impact with each pint of donated blood helping to save as many as three lives; and
WHEREAS, every two seconds someone in the United States of America needs blood, and Blood Bank of Alaska must collect 100 units each day to meet the needs of hospitals and communities across the State of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, to help increase participation in blood donations and ensure
an adequate supply of blood, all Alaskans who are eligible to donate are encouraged to donate their gift of life at least once this year and state agencies are challenged to sponsor four blood drives in the next year of 2017.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, William M. Walker, Governor of the Great State of
Alaska, do hereby proclaim September 2016 as
ALASKA BLOOD DRIVE & DONATION
CHALLENGE MONTH
throughout the state and do encourage all Alaskans to join this
special effort to help ensure a constant blood supply through the act of regular blood donation.
